Simon Buchanan and Stuart Garner first met in 1986 at the studio of Edwin Russell and Lorne McKean in Hindhead, Surrey, England. Simon was just starting his seven year apprenticeship in all aspects of sculpture and Stuart, with a fine art degree from West Surrey College of Art & Design and years of experience in practical 3D work, was the studio manager.

Over the next seven years, working seven days a week, sometimes 24 hours a day on large-scale sculptures, they got to know each other quite well - sharing enthusiasms, moans, coffee, philosophy and roll-ups.

In 1993 Simon finished his apprenticeship and started life as a self-employed sculptor in London, doing part-time work for Nathan David FRBS and carving memorial stones for Memorials by Artists. Stuart left the studio of Edwin and Lorne a couple of huge commissions later and moved into carving work.

In 2000, Simon got a large carving job through Oliver Gero of Brookbrae and looked to Stuart for help. They hired part of the masonry yard at 56 Lower Marsh Lane, Kingston and after the job was finished decided to stay. Work flows in.
